Pig Haven

We named the southern end of the farm Pig Haven because it is largely a messy, low-lying wooded area with some boggy patches that felt like a place where one might run pigs historically.  But actually we’ve never gotten around to building a proper perimeter fence for this part of the farm (pig fencing is EXPENSIVE!), so we CAN’T put pigs here – they would just escape!  However, the beef cows can get into this area from South Pasture, and in the hot, dry times of the year they do like to go in there to find nice shade and some last bits of green grass.  We really should change the name to Cow Haven, but we’d just confuse ourselves at this point!
