Achterhoek means the back corner or the forgotten corner in Dutch – and it’s the name for the region that Julie’s farming family came from in the Netherlands. It’s a small, triangular-shaped pasture surrounded by the Banks-Vernonia trail, Whitcher Creek and the very artificial, straight boundary line of our farm. We use this little pasture occasionally for short-term forage for cows in summer especially, but it’s hard to get water to, so its use is limited.
